A New Semester: Preparing To Be Surprised

There’s a special place in my heart for the first day of school. In two days I will start my next to last semester of library school. I work a full-time job and part-time job–and I go to school part-time. I’ll admit, life has been daunting for the past year and a half. However, for the first time in library school, I’m not intimidated by this semester.

Perhaps I say this out of ignorance. I haven’t seen the syllabi, and who knows what life has up its sleeve. But that’s sort of my point–I don’t know. So I’m not fretting–I’m just going to be excited for what’s next.

Instead of telling our young people to plan ahead, we should tell them to plan to be surprised. -Dan in Real Life
